OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES

                   THE OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES)

M/S MARTHA

The Office of Career Services at Mukurweini Technical Training Institute is a crucial non-academic department dedicated to preparing students for meaningful and productive careers. It not only helps students understand the nature of the workforce and their potential roles within it, but also links academic learning with industry needs, ensuring a smooth transition from education to employment.

Established in line with the Ministry of Education’s directive in January 2019, the office plays a pivotal role in creating strong partnerships between students, industries, and training institutions, both public and private. These collaborations help streamline career preparation, making job hunting and market readiness a seamless task for our trainees.

The office offers a variety of services to support students throughout their academic journey and beyond:

  • Academic Advising: Assisting students in developing study plans aligned with their life and career goals.
  • Career Counselling and Advising: Providing guidance on career choices, job application processes, and interview preparation.
  • Graduate Tracking: Performing studies to understand the impact of the institution’s programs on graduates’ career outcomes, which helps in improving the relevance of courses to the labor market.
  • Industry and Student Linkages: Fostering strong connections between students and industries to ensure that Mukurweini produces highly skilled and job-ready graduates.
  • Database Management: Maintaining a database of potential employers and a student information database accessible for employer reviews.
  • Alumni Networks: Establishing a network of alumni to facilitate mentoring and create job opportunities for current students.
  • Entrepreneur Incubator: Supporting student innovators by offering mentorship, access to business information, and in some cases, seed funding to help them establish their businesses.
  • Career Fairs: Organizing career fairs to provide students with opportunities to learn about career options, build networking skills, and explore internship or job possibilities.
  • High School Recruitment: Collaborating with secondary schools and their principals to plan recruitment events and engage prospective students.
  • Exchange Programs: Organizing exchange programs between local and international institutions to enrich student and staff experiences in research and learning.

Mukurweini Technical Training Institute also places great emphasis on career development by offering vocational insights into Kenya’s occupations, industry structures, labor systems, and employment trends. The Career Services Office participates in career fairs and outreach programs to provide career education and vocational guidance, helping students make informed decisions about their future.

The overall aim of the Career Services Office is to equip trainees with the skills, knowledge, and networks they need to make informed career decisions and thrive in a dynamic job market.
